The national service program of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is called Guide Right. The purpose of Guide Right program is to place the training experience and life lessons of successful men at the disposal of youth for educational and occupational guidance, primarily inspirational and informational in character. Under the principles of Guide Right, the Prairie View Alumni Chapter has develop a program focusing on young men at Yates High School and Prairie View A&M University. PVA also provide leadership for area league sports team in Waller County.
The purpose of the guide right services program are to place the training experience and friendly interest of successful men at disposal of the youth needing inspiration an counsel regarding their choices of lifes career,and to arouse the interest of the entire community in the problems of youth as they seek to realize lives of usefulness. Our Guide Right program encompasses our scholarships, tutorial program, and Kappa Leadership Development League.
The basic objectives of the Kappa Leadership Development League may be summarized as follows:
To help youth, especially those of high school graduating classes, in their selection of courses leading to vocations compatible with their aptitudes and personalities.
To assist students, while they are training, to get started in the employment, and to progress successfully in they're chosen fields.
To assist parents in the handling of their children by given them the opportunities to talk over their problems with those who know and are successful in their chosen vocations.
To afford the less fortunate youths a respite from the drudgery of the streets, through sponsored trips to ball games, zoological garden, museums,theater, and other activities.
To inform youth of the values of higher education, assistance available for continued pursuits, scholarship, loans, professional opportunities, and of current labor demands and the trends on the effect of these demands and trends on the labor market.
Guide Right Programs
Kollege/Kareer Day- is part our Guide Right Program. The chapter conducts several workshops including, how to get into college (Admission Workshop), how to pay for college (Financial Aid Workshop) and how to succeed in college (College Orientation).
Kappa Kamp- is structured to provide activities that foster the spirit of team building, self respect, and respect for others. Kappa Kampers receive instruction in Math, Meteorology, and Astronomy. The kids enjoy their time at the Piney Woods Country Life School in Piney Woods, Mississippi. PVA goal is to always send at least one child per year from the Prairie View Area. Scholarship Gala- This is one of our biggest events. Revenues from the gala are used to fund our Harding L. Jones Scholarships. We have steadily increased the amount and number of recipients.
Waller Hoopers-The Nupes have sponsored the Spurs (2 Time Champions) for the last five to six years. Games are played on Saturday mornings.
Easter Egg Hunt-Both the Zeta Beta Chapter and PVA team up with other Greek organizations to put on an Easter hunt at the Prairie View Fire Station. Last year over two hundred fifty plus kids from the area participated.
